Hearst Adds more Layers to Corporate
You know when you are sitting at the station and your News Director and GM are freaking out because "corporate is coming tomorrow"?
Well, now Hearst stations will have even more corporate people to be scared of.
Hearst announced that Barbara Maushard, who since 2008 has served as a vice president, News, based at Hearst’s New York headquarters, and who since 2013 has held oversight of the company’s news efforts, has been promoted to senior vice president, News. She will continue to set strategy for Hearst Television’s 29 news operations and will have management oversight of the expanded corporate-level news team.
Andrew Vrees, news director of Hearst’s WCVB-TV, Boston’s news leader, has been promoted to vice president, News. He will continue to be based in Boston while providing guidance to newly assigned stations. A successor to Vrees as WCVB news director will be announced at a future date.
Lori Waldon, news director at Sacramento, Calif.’s TV news leader KCRA-TV and its sister station KQCA-TV, has been named regional director of News. She maintains her responsibility as KCRA/KQCA news director and adds oversight of the news operations of Hearst’s KOAT-TV in Albuquerque/Santa Fe, N.M., and KSBW-TV in Monterey/Salinas, Calif., working with the news directors at those stations.
Candy Altman, a Hearst Television vice president, News since 2002, who has focused on Hearst Television’s multiple-award-winning election-coverage efforts, continues to spearhead special news and political-reporting projects, and training and development of news personnel, for which she has forged various industry partnerships.
“We consider this team to be the gold standard in local television news,” said Jordan Wertlieb, Hearst Television president. “Barb and her colleagues throughout the Hearst Television group have done a superb job providing viewers award-winning local journalism, impacting the communities we serve. Along with Candy’s continued contributions and the addition of two accomplished news executives in Andrew and Lori, Hearst Television is well positioned for the future as we expand our news product on all platforms.”
