Longtime Atlanta Anchor Retiring

A longtime Atlanta Anchor says that she is retiring.

WXIA Anchor Brenda Wood says that she is leaving the Tegna station.  She announced she is retiring, but because this is TV news, it's not like she is signing off tomorrow.

Wood will be sticking around, not only for the November book, but next year's feb book as well.

The longtime Anchor took to the station's website, writting, "My heart is pounding. I'm so excited I can hardly breathe. Today is the start of a new journey for me. Today I'm announcing that in February I will retire from the anchor desk at WXIA-TV.  I chose February because it will mark 20 years at 11Alive, and 40 years for me in the television news business.  40 years!"

So, what's next? She says, "I've decided to finally follow my passion, to pursue my longtime dream to develop, produce and give creative voice to new and meaningful artistic projects outside of news. I'm announcing this now so there won't be any speculation about why I'm leaving.  11Alive wanted to extend my contract.  I chose to walk away because I feel the time is right."

It seems that the number one concern all TV Anchors have when they leave, is for viewers to believe that they left on their own. Not sure why this is such a big deal, but this is standard fare for all TV news anchors.

So, is Wood leaving on her own, or is Tegna pushing her out? The bottom line, who really cares? But, obviously TV Anchors do care.

It must be an ego thing.
